Syracuse University, and quite frankly all of Central New York felt the SU Womens Basketball team was vastly underseeded as an 8 in the Bridgeport Region.

Turns out, The Orange proved that theory right in resounding fashion.

The Orange raced to a 28-8 lead while disposing of the 9-seed Iowa State 85-65 on Saturday.

With the win, Syracuse meets #1 Connecticut for the right to advance to the Sweet 16 on Monday.

Freshman Gabby Cooper was sensational, nailing 5 three pointers in the first quarter alone, she netted eight total to score 24 points.

Believe it or not, that was only good enough to be the Orange's THIRD leading scorer.

That's because Alexis Peterson dropped 25 points with 8 assists and 5 steals and Brittney Sykes led the way with 28 points thanks to four three pointers.

"We came out and played well. We did what we wanted to do. Just happy about our overall effort and our win." Coach Quentin Hillsman said after the game.

It's the fifth straight trip to the dance for the Orange, and Syracuse is hoping to make it to the Sweet 16 for just the second time ever.
