Orange basketball ranked 7th in preseason coaches poll

If you believe in preseason polls, big things are expected of the Syracuse Orange this basketball season.

On Thursday, USA Today released its preseason college coaches' poll, and Syracuse is ranked seventh. This comes on the heels of Wednesdayâ??s ACC media day, where SU was ranked second in the preseason media poll and senior forward C.J. Fair was named preseason player of the year.

New ACC foe Duke is ranked fourth in the preseason USA Today poll and first in the conference. Former (and future) rival Louisville is third nationally.

Orange coach Jim Boeheim is part of the 32-member Board of Coaches, and has a vote in the USA Today poll. The Associated Press will release its preseason writers' poll on October 31.

The Orange offer the public a first look at the team during â??Orange Madnessâ?? Friday night at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 for the general public, free to season ticket holders and students.

SU hosts Holy Family of Philadelphia in their first exhibition game on Friday, November 1. The regular season begins on Friday, November 8 when the Orange host Cornell.
