Syracuse University has made official what was first reported Wednesday: Saturdayâ??s SU-Duke basketball game will set a new attendance record.
SU Athletics posted on its website Thursday afternoon that 35,446 tickets have been sold for the highly-anticipated matchup of the #2 Orange and #16 Blue Devils. That will be a new national college basketball on-campus attendance record, breaking the old mark of 35,012 set by Syracuse and Georgetown in the Carrier Dome last February.
Mannyâ??s on Marshall Street was confident enough in that attendance number that it has been printing t-shirts with â??Sold Outâ?? and â??35,446â?? printed on them. Co-owner Bill Nester told CNY Centralâ??s Kellie Cowan that "Georgetown was an important game, but this is even more anticipated than Georgetown. This is like the game of the century," and his shirts have been selling well in the days and weeks leading up to the game.
SU vs. Duke tips off at 6:30 p.m. and will be telecast on ESPN. The networkâ??s â??College GameDayâ?? crew will be at the Carrier Dome for a live show at 10:00 a.m.
