The Syracuse Orange basketball team will be sporting a new color scheme when they take the court vs. South Florida later this month.
In post on the Syracuse Athletics website, the university announced it will debut its new alternate gray jerseys when they host USF at the Carrier Dome on February 22. The school says it is one of nine programs selected by Nike to wear the new gear, which is officially called "Nike Hyper Elite Platinum".

In a statement on the SU Athletics website, Nike says the "Nike Hyper Elite Platinum uniform is designed at the intersection of sustainability and performance. Nike created the uniforms specifically for superior performance and lower environmental impact. The fabric of the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum shorts are made from 100 percent recycled polyester while the jersey fabric is made from at least 96% recycled polyester. Both short and jersey are tailored for the optimal efficiency of movement and are five percent lighter than the previous Nike Hyper Elite uniform. Featuring laser-cut bonded logos, a sharp platinum design as well as prominent accent colors, the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum uniforms are sure to shine on the court."
SU says each of the nine teams chosen to wear the uniforms has won a national basketball championship. The others include the Arizona, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, UConn, and North Carolina men's teams as well as the Baylor and UConn women's teams.
Syracuse University sent out a tweet at 11:21 Wednesday morning stating that these platinum jerseys will make a one time only appearance vs. USF. Their exact quote: "We're getting lots of strong feedback on the Nike basketball uniforms. Remember - they'll only be used for one game: USF on 2/22!"
It was a little less than two years ago that SU and Nike unveiled the current jersey look.
