The career of Jim Boeheim is something to truly admire.
A man who has devoted 50 years of his life to Syracuse basketball and the overall welfare of the community has the opportunity to check another milestone off his list tonight.
With a win over Detroit, Jim Boeheim will have won 900 games as head coach of Syracuse. He'll be the first coach to win 900 games all at one school and the third overall in Division I mens basketball to do so.
Coach though, showing a mindset that has made him so successful, isn't thinking about the milestone, but rather his team's matchup with the Detroit Titans.
??Nobody wants to believe me but I??m thinking nine and now I??m thinking 10. I know what happens, I know what is going on??that just does not matter to this team. Winning is the only thing that matters. They don??t care about how many wins. They care about getting the next win and that??s it. Everything else does not matter. I am happy I am still here??when I was 17 years old I almost went home in the first year (as a student at Syracuse). I am still here" said Boeheim.
No doubt, his players are focused on the task at hand, but they are also aware of the history they could and quite frankly should become a part of.
Brandon Triche, a senior guard, was playing his first game as a member of the Orange when Boeheim won his 800th game.
"It is going to be an incredible experience" said Triche of being a part of win #900
"I've seen the last 300, being here. I think it was Jonny Flynn's freshman year he got 700, and now I am seeing 900 and I am happy to be a part of it. He deserves every win he gets" Triche added.
Tip-off with Detroit is scheduled for 7 p.m. CNY Central will preview the game, getting you ready for the histroic moment.
