The Syracuse Orange Football team officially starts the 2014 preseason when it opens camp on Saturday. On that day, you'll be able to hear what the team has to say on our 6, 10, and 11 p.m. news.
But what about the rest of preseason practice?
Here's a synopsis of the preseason camp schedule:
From August 2nd through the 8th, it's pretty much the same schedule. The Orange will practice from 4:45-6:45 with Coach Shafer addressing the media afterward. Depending on the day, the media is able to ask assistant coaches and/or student athletes questions.
August 9th is Orange Fan Fest, which takes place from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the practice fields by Manley Field House. In the past, after practice, fans have been able to meet players for autographs.
On August 12th the team heads north to Fort Drum where they will be until Friday, August 15th. Typically this includes a scrimmage for the military personnel and their families and the Orange players doing many teambuilding drills that the troops on the base would typically partake.
The Orange returns to Syracuse August 16, and the final media availability of the "preseason" is August 20.
Essentially, the Orange enters "game week" mode on August 23rd when Coach Shafer will hold a press conference to preview the season opener against Villanova. That game is Friday August 29th at 7:30 in the Carrier Dome. All practices from August 20th until that game are closed, but several times, Coach Shafer will still fill in the media on the day's events.
