We're kicking off our summer segment of the "Best 18 Golf Holes in CNY" by showing you easily one of the most picturesque holes in the region.
It's the 10th hole at Pompey Club, and if you've played there, you know what we're talking about.
The 10th hole is actually among the highest points in Onondaga County, at nearly 1,600 feet above sea level.
That elevation allows you to easily see not only downtown Syracuse and the Carrier Dome, but even Oneida Lake on any given day regardless of the weather.
On a clear day, you can even see Lake Ontario, more than 50 miles away.
The pretty views are just as rewarding as the hole itself. It's a 330 yard par four from the whites, but given the elevation change to the green below. Pompey Club's Owner/Pro Stan Gorman tells us it plays closer to 280 yards. Quite the temptation for anyone who can hit the long ball.
There are some risk rewards, bunkers guard each side of your approach, and if your drive is errant to the right (like mine was!) you're sitting on the 11th tee box with trees to contend with.
But the reward factor, of course, is you could be on the green in one shot on a par four, or at the very least, wedging in to set up for a birdie putt.
The Pompey Club has a lot of history in the local golf community. Known for it's pristine conditions at any time of year, the 10th hole just adds to that prestige.
