It certainly speaks volumes of the Syracuse Football team's depth and stability when one of the most talked about storylines in training camp has been about who will back up Terrel Hunt at quarterback.
Alas, with two days left before the season opener, Redshirt Freshman Austin Wilson has won the job.
Quarterbacks Coach Tim Lester told us on Tuesday night that Wilson will be Hunt's backup heading into the contest with Villanova at the Carrier Dome on Friday.
Wilson looked sharp in the spring game and has a cannon for an arm. The knock on Austin has been the lack of mobility in an increasingly fast paced Orange offensive attack. Given that, it speaks volumes of the impression Wilson has made on the staff to win the backup position over true Freshman A.J. Long and fellow redshirt Freshman Mitch Kimble.
The Orange kicks off with Villanova at 7:30 on Friday night.
