Chiefs shut out Red Wings for second straight day

After Tanner Roark pitched a gem Saturday night and led the Chiefs to their 1-0 victory over the Rochester Red Wings, on Sunday evening, the Chiefs and Red Wings went at it again at NBT Stadium in the second game of a 4 game home and home series.

The Chiefs sent out starter Caleb Clay to the mound and he impressed. This including striking out the first three batters of the game, his only strikeouts of the game. He would go on to pitch 6 shutout innings with the three strikeouts, three walks and only rendering three hits.


eff Mandel and Xavier Cedeno would help preserve the shut out with Michael Crotta picking up his second save of the season. Rochesterâ??s Liam Hendricks took the complete game loss. Zach Walters and Will Rhymes drove the Syracuse offense, Rhymes driving in catcher Brian Jeroloman with a single in the 3rd inning and Walters scoring Chris Rahl on a double in the 4th inning.

The Chiefs pick up their 13th home win of the season and improve their record to 33 wins and 49 losses. Rochester drops to 41 and 44 on the season.

The Chiefs and Red Wings play in Rochester at Frontier Field tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. The Chiefs will send Yunesky Maya to the mound while the Red Wings will start Cole De Vries.
