Howard Dolgon, the Syracuse Crunch's owner since the team's inception in the 1994-1995 season has a flare for the dramatic and firing up sports fans in Central New York.
Look no further than the first ever outdoor AHL hockey game back in 2010.
At the time, that game set the all-time AHL attendance record with over 21 thousand fans.
Now, Dolgon eyes a different record.
Dolgon tells CNY Central he is in negotiations with Syracuse University, namely Peter Sala from the Carrier Dome, on getting a Crunch game inside the Dome.
Undoubtedly, this game would include many other activities including a Syracuse Womens Ice Hockey game.
The goal here, in addition to providing a "once in a lifetime opportunity" as Dolgon puts it, would be to break the indoor North American hockey attendance record.
That record, which includes both AHL and NHL games, sits at just over 27,000 fans.
Obviously, a game in the Carrier Dome could potentially seat many more fans.
Dolgon tells me that discussions with SU have been overwhelmingly positive, and that he could have word on the game within the next 30-45 days.
