The SU football team will give fans their first glimpse of the 2014 squad on Saturday, hosting their annual SU football Fan Fest.
The event begins at 3 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium near Manley Field House. All for free, fans will get refreshments, activities, appearances by Otto the Orange, inflatable bouncy tents and much more. At 4:30 p.m. fans will be able to watch SU football practice, with Scott Shafer saying they'll be treated to some live action as well.
"We will liven it up a little bit over there on the soccer field," Shafer says. "We're gonna do some tackling on Saturday, fans come out, and can't wait to see the fans, can't wait to see the kids."
After practice, players and coaches will sign autographs and meet the fans as well. While it's mainly about the fans, the players get some valuable experience by playing in front of a crowd for the first time all season.
"Some young players will get a little jittery, try to show off for the fans to show that they're making strides with the team," senior offensive tackle Sean Hickey says. "For veterans, it's a good thing to try to get fan appreciation, sign some autographs after and hopefully get some more people out to the games."
