The Syracuse Crunch defeated the Springfield Falcons 5-2 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Friday night.
In the first round, the Crunch played three hard-fought games against the Portland Pirates, but Friday night's opening game in round two was never in doubt, as Syracuse took a 4-1 lead after just the first period.
The Crunch scored four goals on eight shots in the first, with Mark Barberio, Richard Panik, JT Brown and Brett Connolly all notching a goal.
AHL MVP Tyler Johnson scored to give the Crunch a 5-1 lead in the second, the last of the scoring for Syracuse on the evening, which was more than enough in the 5-2 win.
The Crunch and Falcons play Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Mass Mutual Center.
