Crunch pounds Penguins 7-0 and advances to Calder Cup Finals

The Syracuse Crunch scored early and often in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, winning 7-0 to advance to the Calder Cup Finals.

Both teams were held scoreless for most of the first period, until Andrej Sustr took a shot that was deflected off Penguins goalie Jeff Zatkoff up into the air, which Vladislav Namestnikov then hit into the net.

Zatkoff was blocked on the Crunch's second goal of the game, as Radko Gudas took a shot from the right point, giving the Crunch a 2-0 lead.

In the second period, the Crunch scored three goals within five minutes. First, Philippe Paradis wrapped around from behind the net to make it 3-0, then an interception on a clear attempt by the Penguins led to a Dan Sexton goal and finally Sexton found Ondrej Palat in front to make it 5-0 Crunch after the second period.

Paradis finished with a hat trick, and Desjardins recorded his third shutout of the playoffs stopping all 23 shots he faced.

The Crunch plays the winner of the Grand Rapids-Oklahoma City Western Conference Finals. That series is currently tied at 2.
