F/M Little League tops Cicero, will head to sectional tournament
Some of the best young talent on the baseball diamond was on display Friday night at Lonergan Park.
Little Leaguers from Fayetteville/Manlius and Cicero battled it out for the District 8 Championship with the winner getting a step closer to the ultimate goal, a trip to the Little League World Series.
In the third inning, Cicero pitcher Zicaro was pounding the strike zone early on. He got his team out of a jam and back in the dugout to begin the fourth inning.
In the top half of the fourth, F/M's Christopher Hoalcraft was just as strong on the mound, holding Cicero scoreless.
In the bottom of the fourth Michael Terribile came to the plate with the bases loaded, and he delivered by crushing a grand slam over the fence in right field, and that would be the ball game by ten run mercy.
F/M wins it 14-4.
They'll head to the sectional tournament in Horseheads this weekend.
Many of the players on this year's F/M team made it to sectionals last year as well, but they were knocked out by a team from Maine Endwell who on to win the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.
After Terribile circled the bases, his teammates were waiting for him at home plate.
"I was smiling...trying to hold it in, but it was hard because I was so happy," Michael Terribile said.
