Former CNY high school athletes awarded at the college level for excellent play

ESM grad Casey Sullivan was awarded nationally during the first game of September

The College at Brockport is about two and a half hours east of the City of Syracuse, but the Golden Eagles athletics program still has a CNY heartbeat with former Section 3 high school athletes.

In the first week of September, two of those athletes were honored, one on a national level. Casey Sullivan, a sophomore goalkeeper for the 5-0-1 Golden Eagle men's soccer team, was named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week for the first week of September. A 2012 ESM graduate, he's only allowed one goal through the team's first six games, including four shutouts in a row in his last four games. His ESM squad advanced to State Final Four in 2011.

Also in the first week of September, 2011 Cazenovia graduate Abby Eschen was named the Brockport Women's Athlete of the Week. She's helped lead her team to four straight wins, improving the Golden Eagles to 4-2 on the season. A junior midfielder, she leads the team in scoring with five goals and two assists.

Watch the video to see Sullivan's comments on playing at ESM, and Eschen's thoughts on playing at Cazenovia as well. At the end of the clip, another former CNY athlete, Emily Corpin (a Morrisville grad), scores a goal in the team's 4-0 win over Wells College on Wednesday.
