The NBA season kicks off in style on Tuesday night with Boston in Miami and Dallas in Los Angeles, but most SU Basketball fans will have their eyes on Cleveland where the Cavaliers are hosting the Washington Wizards. Former Orange Dion Waiters will be in the starting lineup for Cleveland, the first time that's happened for the former Orange sixth man since high school.
"Most importantly I wanna go out there and get a win ," said Waiters after he found out he had made the starting lineup, "i t ' s my first NBA game ever, so that's the most important thing to me. You are going to get jitters regardless, it's a big step for you, its something you've dreamed about your whole life. Once the ball goes in the air, you just gotta calm yourself down, just play smart, don't try to do to much out there, and just play within the team".
Waiters earned himself into the Cavs starting five by averaging 8.6 points and a .344 shooting percentage in seven preseason games. He'll be joined by Kyrie Irving, Alonzo Gee, Tristan Thompson and Anderson Varejao in a starting five that has an average age of under 24 years of age, so the learning curve should be affect.
"Its a learning process I had to go through. I didn't have a great preseason. I missed a lot of shots that I normally make. I'm not worried about the preseason though, the season is about to start".
