Former SU football player Pierce-Brewster avoids jail time
A former Syracuse University football player charged in an on-campus burglary has reached a plea agreement that will keep him out of jail as long as he stays out of trouble.
Markus Pierce-Brewster admitted in State Supreme Court on Wednesday to burglarizing an apartment last February. If he follows the rules of his interim supervision and doesn't commit another crime, the charge will be reduced and Pierce-Brewster won't go to jail.
A plea deal with the same sentencing agreement fell apart last week when Pierce-Brewster told his lawyer in court that he didn't commit the crime he was pleading guilty to.
Former teammate Davon Walls took a television and other electronics in the robbery. He pleaded guilty in December and was placed on interim probation for a year.
