Former Syracuse Lacrosse goalie John Galloway will be very busy this summer as he takes on the job as the new defensive coordinator of the Providence College Friars.
"I couldn't be more excited," says Galloway, "especially at my age to have this opportunity, a full time position with a division one program in the Big East, and I think we can be competitive as well."
The All-American joins brand new head coach Chris Gabrielli, who was the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for Duke last season. Galloway was a volunteer assistant goalie coach for the Blue Devils, and learned from Gabrielli every step of the way.
"I'm really lucky in the fact that Coach Gabrielli is also a defensive coach," admits Galloway, "he was the defensive coordinator at Duke. It's a chance for me to be able to walk not run, and I'll have him to lean on at all times. You have to rely on your insticts as well. I've been involved in lacrosse for upwards of 17 and 18 years, so it's not like this is my first rodeo watching defense, so I feel comfortable in my lacrosse IQ, and I feel confident I can lead."
Galloway was a four-year starter at SU, helping to lead the Orange to National Championships in his freshman and sophomore seasons. He set school records in his junior and senior years for goals against average. He played his high school lacrosse for the legendary West Genesee high school lacrosse team.
