Arguably the most famous player in the NFL is looking for a job just a few days after his team drafted his possible replacement.
According to several published reports, the New York Jets have released quarterback Tim Tebow after one tumultuous season with the team. Tebow, a first round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in 2010, played sparingly for the Jets last season, completing 6-8 passes for 39 yards and rushing 32 times for 102 yards with zero touchdowns.
Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner and a two time national champion at the University of Florida, was acquired by the Jets in March 2012 for a seventh round draft choice. He headlined the Jets?? preseason training camp in Cortland, drawing crowds larger than in past summers and daily coverage on ESPN and local television.
The Jets selected former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith in the second round of last week??s NFL Draft, likely signaling Tebow??s tenure with the Jets was at an end.
