Le Moyne College wins Division II National Title in thrilling fashion over Mercyhurst

Le Moyne wins Division II national title

Mercyhurst hit the post twice in the closing seconds, but could not get the ball in the net, giving Le Moyne College their first Division II National Title since 2007 with an 11-10 victory.

After Le Moyne jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, Mercyhurst stormed back with three goals of their own in the second, leading to a 5-5 tie at the half. But, Nate Frechette, Kevin Kelly, Andrew Chadderdon, Alec Westerhoff, and Conor Regin scored five goals in a row to begin the second half, giving the Dolphins a 10-5 lead after the third quarter.

After Chadderdon scored another to make it 11-5, Mercyhurst responded with a run of their own, scoring five in a row down the stretch to cut the lead to one with less than three minutes to play. Mercyhurst had the final possession, and Jake McAndrew hit the post with less than a minute to play, which is as close as they would get. He would shoot wide as time expired, allowing Le Moyne to narrowly escape.
