Le Moyne women's lacrosse prepares for trip to NCAA D-II Final Four in Tampa
Aside from the Cornell men's lacrosse team, the Le Moyne women are the only team left representing Central New York in the postseason.
The Dolphins will meet Regis University from Colorado in the NCAA Division-II Women's Lacrosse Final Four.
Le Moyne took down Adelphi on Saturday, 14-11, to advance to this week's Final Four. The team held practice on Tuesday afternoon, which was open to the local media.
The players and coaches shared their excitement for the trip to Tampa, Florida.
"I think a lot of people out here talk about Syracuse [University] lacrosse. I think Le Moyne gets under-shadowed," Bryanna Fazio said. "So to be the only team left in Central New York, that's huge. We need to make a statement this weekend and come on home with a trophy."
"You know that's a really good question because as they come screaming across the field after we beat Adelphi, they keep chanting 'we're gonna get a tan, we're gonna get a tan,'" head coach Kathy Taylor said when asked about her team's focus ahead of playing in the Sunshine State. "And I'm thinking (shrieks) ' oh no, we really want to win a championship, don't we?' So yeah, it's a challenge, I'll tell you. I'm working on it."
An interesting side note to Friday's game -- Regis head coach Sarah Kellner served as an assistant under Le Moyne head coach Kathy Taylor during her time at Fayetteville-Manlius.
Kellner is regarded as perhaps Cornell University's greatest player in the program's history.
Game time is set for Friday at 3 p.m. from the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida.
