Shakeya Leary posted a double-double as the Syracuse women downed Temple in a 82-76 victory at the Carrier Dome. The Orange jumped out to an early lead thanks to a dominating effort down low by Leary, who scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the first half alone. The Owls overcame an eleven point halftime deficit and Feyonda Fitzgerald's three point shooting gave Temple a six point edge with just over 11 minutes left on the clock. But the Owls could not hang on as Brianna Butler kept things in check with her three point shooting and Brittney Sykes helped pad the Orange lead late in the contest. Leary finished the night with a 24 point, 13 rebound performance. Sykes put up 20 points for the Orange and went a perfect six for six from the free throw line. Fitzgerald's 28 points lead both sides as the Owls fell to 5-3 on the season. Syracuse (9-1) will have little time to rest with Niagra (2-5) visiting the Carrier Dome Thursday (7 p.m. tipoff) and St. Joseph's (9-1) arriving on Saturday for a 1 p.m. bout.
