Maryland rematch on tap for SU women's lacrosse following win over UNC

The SU women's lacrosse team (17-1) beat the North Carolina Tar Heels (14-4) 9-7 on Friday to advance to the ACC Tournament Championship game.

The Orange dominated the first half, taking a 6-2 lead into the locker room at halftime. But, behind 11 saves from goalie Megan Ward, the Tar Heels crept back into the game. North Carolina took a 7-6 lead after Aly Messinger scored with 13:35 left, that was part of a 5-0 scoring run.

SU sophomore Kayla Treanor stopped that run by scoring with 8:28 remaining, tying the game 7-7. Amy Cross then scored about one minute later, giving the Orange an 8-7 lead, and they'd never look back, winning 9-7.

SU plays Maryland, their only loss of the season, in the ACC Tournament Championship game at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Chestnut Hill, M.A.
