OCC Lazers on a high; ranked 2nd in the nation

The # 1 SU Men's Basketball team isn't the only local program at the top of the national rankings. The OCC Women's basketball team was bumped up to # 2 in the country this week, after knocking off the former # 2 team Roxbury on Sunday in a thrilling 66-65 final.

" W e were all very excited," says senior center Carly Dicocco, "especially us returners because we lost to them last year, so that was revenge and it felt so good to beat them that us three captains were actually crying. That is how excited we were, so proud of our team, such a great win. We played together as a family and with unity comes victory."

"We definitely knew we were good," says senior guard Cady Kalemba, "and we came out with so much heart and with that heart we had there was no way we were going to lose that game."

The big win has the entire Lazers basketball team on a high during exam week. After exams they'll start getting ready for a late December trip to Florida to take on more tough competition, taking it game by game with one goal in mind.

"We want to win championships here," says head coach Mike Wheeler, "and our first stop is to try to win the conference, and our second stop is to win the conference championship, and move on the regionals and try to get ourselves to another national tournament."
