OCC ready for special ceremony to unveil new fields

The new field at OCC features brown field turf, meant to look like dirt, but drain much quicker.

You could call it, OCC's field(s) of dreams.

Onondaga Community College will officially unveil its new state of the art softball and baseball fields today. A true testament to the absolute overhaul of the athletic facilities at the college.

Of course, it all began with the new state of the art lacrosse field. It's no coincidence that since that time the OCC Men's Lacrosse team has won every national title since 2009.

That was followed by the incredible SRC Arena, which consistently sees the OCC Womens Basketball program cutting down the nets.

Now, it's softball and baseball's turn.

The new facilities, located next to Coyne Hall at OCC are top notch. In fact, as you can see in the picture here there is no dirt on the field. It's brown field turf, and it makes battling Central New York Winters a lot easier.

Naturally, the field can drain quicker and perhaps just as quickly, the facility has become a beacon for local high schools looking for a place to play too.

Thursday's ceremony includes a ceremonial first pitch at 11:00 a.m. followed by a baseball game at 2:00 p.m. and a softball game at 3:00 p.m.

Given the fields are adjacent to each other, you could conceivably check out both teams in action at the same time.

The new complex is instantly breeding success, the OCC Baseball team is undefeated in Region 3 play while the Softball team has only lost one game in regional play.
