OCC women's basketball wins its 6th straight league title

The Onondaga Community Collegeâ??s womenâ??s basketball team captured their sixth straight regular season Midstate Conference Championship with a 91-78 victory over Jefferson Community College Saturday. It's the teams 69th straight win in league play.

This season, the Lady Lazers are undefeated in conference play with two games left to play. Coach Mike Wheeler said the team set out this season with high goals, including winning a regular season title.

â??And that was one of our goals was to win a regular season title,â?? said Wheeler. â??Theyâ??re (Jefferson CC) a top 15 team in the country and any time you can go out and beat a team like that and to win another regular season title, Iâ??m really proud of the girls and how hard they have worked so far. Itâ??s another step to where we want to head and they know the bigger title is out ahead and they want to continue to play better and we want to continue to get better.â??

The Lady Lazers' next game is Wednesday, February 12 when they host Tompkins Cortland Community College at the SRC Arena. Tip off is at 5pm.
