OCC women's soccer and Orange football honors Rob Edson

The OCC women's soccer team releases balloons to honor Rob Edson before their soccer game on Saturday

It has been a somber week across Central New York with the sudden death of Rob Edson.

Edson, who died last Saturday from a heart attack, was serving his third year as the Athletic Director of Onondaga Community College after he was an officer in Syracuse Universityâ??s Athletic Department for 21 years.

At todayâ??s womensâ?? soccer match between Onondaga Community College and Finger Lakes Community College, the OCC Lady Lazers honored the late Athletic Director with a moment of silence and the releasing of 21 balloons before kick-off.

â??The love he created in our community, it really shows,â?? said Onondaga Captain Sarah Bregg. â??Thereâ??s a lot of people that care about him.â??

Down the road at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse University also honored Edson during the Orange Football game against Tulane. Edsonâ??s initials â??REâ?? were painted on the field and students were given t-shirts with the phrase â??#RiseUpForRobâ?? printed on them.

The Orange would go on to defeat Tulane 52-17 while the Lady Lazers fell to Finger Lakes Community College 2-0.
