One step closer- Le Moyne marches into Northeast 10 semifinals

Le Moyne lacrosse sailed by Saint Anselm 13-6 in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships this afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins earned a three-seed for the tournament after posting a 9-2 conference record and had a date with the sixth-seeded Saint Anselm Hawks.

Andrew Chadderdon opened up the scoring for Le Moyne on a man-up opportunity early in the first quarter with a high velocity shot from distance. The Dolphins went on to score three more unanswered goals to go up 4-0 on Saint Anselm, before the Hawks had a response.

The Hawks cut the lead down to 4-2, but Le Moyne went on another run to gain a 7-2 halftime lead. During this stretch, Kevin Kelly scored two of his three goals and Conor Regin scored a goal with less than one minute left in the half after he went coast to coast in less than six seconds, only to find the back of the net.

Saint Anselm came out of halftime trying to comeback on the Dolphins by scoring two quick goals, but Le Moyne was on a mission to claim their 11th Northeast-10 title and send the Hawks swooping home.

After a back and forth third quarter, the Dolphins broke open their lead in the fourth quarter by ending the game on a 4-0 run. Joe Corapi led this run with finishing on two of his shots.

Jeff White stood tall between the pipes while making nine saves in the game. Le Moyne gave themselves an edge by outshooting the Hawks 40-28 in the contest.

The Dolphins will travel to play 2nd-seeded Merrimack in the conference semifinals on Friday with a 7:00 p.m. faceoff scheduled. Le Moyne will be looking to avenge a 5-3 loss that came to the Warriors earlier in the season. If the Dolphins pull off the upset, they will face the winner of Saint Michaelâ??s and top-seeded Adelphi on Sunday in the conference championship game.
