After more than a month of low offensive output, the Orange attack found their stroke in their March Madness opener downing the Broncos 77-53.
Trevor Cooney knocked down a pair of early 3-pointers to ignite his game from beyond the arc. Cooney led both sides with 18 points, and hit 4/8 at 3-point range. His highest total since sinking 9/12 from beyond the arc against Notre Dame on February 3.
Syracuse had double-digit contributions from four of its starters. Jerami Grant finished with 16, Tyler Ennis put up 16, and C.J. Fair had a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds.
Freshman forward Tucker Haymond and Shayne Whittington led the Broncos in scoring with 11 points each.
Syracuse will now face No. 11 seed Dayton on Saturday in the Round of 32. Dayton upset in-state rival and sixth seeded Ohio State earlier today.
