Raw video: Refs can't wave off Teddy Bear Toss, Crunch beats Rochester 1-0

Teddy Bears fly through the air in the War Memorial on Saturday night

When Artem Sergeev scored what looked like the first goal of the game, the fans didn't hesitate, first giving a cheer, then reaching down and throwing hundreds of teddy bears on the War Memorial Ice.

It was all part of the Syracuse Crunch's Tired Teddy Bear toss. The team encouraged fans to bring new and gently used stuffed animals to the game and to throw them on the ice. All of the stuffed animals will be refurbished by Stanley Steemer and donated to The Salvation Army. A few of the bears were also the subject of this report with the Crunch players making some of their own at Build-A-Bear.

The pure joy of teddy bears flying through the air was somewhat short-lived though, because as Crunch staff and players picked up all the bears, the referees called the goal off, keeping the score 0-0.

Luckily for the Crunch, just a few minutes later Brett Connolly tallied a goal, making the score 1-0 once again, which ended up being the only goal of the game, as the Crunch beat Rochester by that same score.
