The Class B No.1 state-ranked Westhill Warriors beat the Class A No.7 state-ranked Bishop Ludden Gaelic Knights 62-54 on Saturday in front of a packed crowd at Allyn Hall.
The two teams went back and forth throughout the first half, and even when it looked like the Gaelic Knights would take the lead into the half, Ryan Roland hit a three-pointer from the corner, giving the Warriors a 30-29 lead at the half.
The first few minutes of the second half were also close, with the Warriors clinging to a four-point advantage throughout the third quarter. In the fourth, Jordan Roland made a few key baskets, including a three-pointer from the corner and a tip-in on a fast break to extend Westhill's lead, leaving the fans in a frenzy.
Bishop Ludden had opportunities at the free throw line down the stretch, but could not convert, going just 11-20 from the charity stripe. Ludden senior Dan Kaigler made two three-pointers with less than a minute to go (finishing with 13 points), but it wasn't enough. The Warriors ran out the clock, clinching their second straight victory over their rivals, and staying undefeated.
