Riopel back in the AHL, signs with Crunch
The Syracuse Crunch have bolstered up their defense in the wake of their Calder Cup Final run, signing goaltender Nicola Riopel to an AHL contract earlier today.
Riopel spent the 2016-17 season in the ECHL with the Kalamazoo Wings, helping the team to a playoff berth while posting an 18-12-1 record along with a .899 save percentage.
Over his ECHL career, Riopel boasted a 69-35-6 record in 129 games played.
The 28-year old goaltender is no stranger to the AHL, however, having had two separate stints with Adirondack Phantoms, the minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, from 2009-2011. Riopel appeared in 21 games for the Orange and Black, earning a 7-13-0 record.
Riopel was selected with 142nd overall pick by the Flyers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
