Scott Shafer hires Lester as SU Football's quarterback coach

Syracuse University Athletics announced Thursday that Tim Lester will join the SU football coaching staff.

Lester comes from five years as head coach at Elmhurst College where he led the team to "their most successful season in school history," according to SU Athletics.

"I am extremely excited and honored to have the opportunity to coach within a football program with such great tradition, from Jim Brown to Coach Mac to Donovan McNabb, as it enters the ACC," Lester was quoted as saying on SUAthletics.com. He says their focus will be on the quarterbacks and making a product "that will be exciting for all Syracuse fans [to] watch."

According to SU Athletics, Lester has been a high school assistant football coach, an offensive coordinator at Elmhurst College, the head coach/offensive coordinator of Saint Joseph's College, quarterback coach at Western Michigan University, and most recently head coach at Elmhurst College.

Lester graduated with a degree in mathematics from Western Michigan University in 2000 where he set 17 school records, according to SU Athletics. He played professional football in the Arena Football League, Arena Football League 2, and the XFL before beginning his coaching career.
