Some success and some seasons end for local colleges in NCAA action

The Le Moyne Dolphins menâ??s lacrosse team (13-3) had their postseason run end abruptly Saturday afternoon with a 9-3 loss to Long Island University-Post. In the first half, goals from Mike Jenkins, Kam Bumpus, and Chris Button help give the Dolphins a 3-2 lead. However, LIU-Post would end the game on a 7-0 run, ending Le Moyneâ??s quest for a second straight national championship. Joe Costello led LIU-Post with 4 goals while Matty Beccaris scored 3 goals with one assist. Pat Brothers made 9 saves for the Dolphins.

In Division III action, the Ithaca College Bombers (15-5) saw their season come to a close, falling to RIT (19-0) 20-8 in the second round of the D3 NCAA Tournament. The Bombers beat Monclair State in the first round, but could not get past the top-ranked team in the nation.

The Cortland State men's lacrosse team (17-3) built up a big 12-3 lead in the fourth quarter against Springfield, and held off the Pride's late charge in the 4th quarter to win 14-10. Joe Slavik scored three goals, and had four assists in the victory.

The #1 ranked SUNY Cortland women's team dominated Mount Union 20-5 in their Division III NCAA Second Round game, and will face either Redlands or Pomona-Pitzer in the regional next Saturday.
