It was the perfect Saturday for "Family Weekend" at Syracuse University, as the entire campus was kind of feeling like a family, still buzzing from SU Football's huge win over West Virginia the night before. As Syracuse University students walked their parents around campus, they were wearing those SU shirts, sweat tops and hats with lots of pride knowing the entire nation had witnessed SU's 49-23 win over the Mountaineers on national television.
"It was one of those things where you just said thank goodness this is on National TV," joked Alisa Frederick, "because not one would believe it otherwise."
"It was rowdy it was energetic," described another fan, "it was dynamic, it was awesome, it was one of the best football games I've ever been to!!"
And if you think it feels pretty good being an SU fan, the players themselves were enjoying one of the better Saturday's they've had in quite some time. The Offensive players were reflecting back on a night that saw quarterback Ryan Nassib throw for 4 touchdowns and run another in himself. Three of those touchdowns were to Nick Provo, who said he knew he had to be a playmaker in a big game like this one.
"It is a big win," says Provo, "we were able to keep the (The Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy), which we used as extra inspiration this week. It is something that now we know what we can do, something that can bring us forward. We did a good job this week focusing on the little things. After the last couple weeks, we have to stay focused and keep moving forward."
And they'll be moving forward with a huge piece of their defense back. Defensive End Chandler Jones had 6 tackles and 2 sacks in his return from injury. The fact that this was his first game back since the season opener made last night's upset victory even more satisfying.
"You have a team like Syracuse who is not ranked and you are going up against the 11th-ranked team in the nation," reflected Jones, "they came in here with swagger and it was our job to keep up with them and come out of here with a win."
