Last Sunday, the Syracuse Orange visited Duke looking to capture their first win against an ACC opponent, only to fall 21-7 to the Blue Devils.
The Orange returned home Saturday still looking to capture their ACC win against fellow ACC newcomer Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Orange never trailed Notre Dame, going up by three goals several times throughout the game.
However, Notre Dame would hang around, including knotting the game 10-10 with under five minutes to play in the game. But, Kevin Rice showed why he's clutch, scoring the game-winning goal for the Orange with two minutes and five seconds left to give the Orange the 11-10 victory and their first ever ACC Conference win.
Rice led the Orange with four goals in the game while Derek Maltz and Dylan Donahue each added three goals for the Orange. After struggling for much of the season with faceoffs, the Orange beat Notre Dame in the faceoff circle, winning 15 of 24. Coming into the game, Notre Dame's Liam O'Connor was second in the nation in faceoff winning percentage.
Syracuse's next game is Wednesday, April 2nd in the Carrier Dome when they host the Binghamton University Bearcats. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
