Brittney Sykes' buzzer beater sent Syracuse into the holiday break on an 11-1 high note as they squeaked out a come-from-behind win over Sain Joseph's (9-2) at the Carrier Dome.
The Orange spent much of the afternoon playing catch up, at one point trailing 22-7 in the first half. Hawks sharper shooter Erin Shields, sunk seven of 12 shots from beyond the arc and 50-percent from the field. But her 21 points couldn't put St. Joseph's out of reach.
After pushing the Hawks' lead to seven with 7:56 left to play, the Orange took over, outscoring Saint Joseph's 15-6 in the final minutes.
Natasha Cloud tied things up at 62-all with 21 seconds left but with the crowd counting her down, Sykes drove to the basket and gave Syracuse a 64-62 lead as time expired.
Sykes finished with 20 points, her fourth consecutive 20-point outing. Freshman Briana Day recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds, 10 points. Brianna Butler also shot for double digits with 15 points.
The Orange will have an eight day break before they travel to Arizona State to face the Sun Devils on December 30. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
