Syracuse Chiefs' slugger Zach Walters dealt to Cleveland

Zach Walters (far right, orange shirt) talks with Tom Eschen this Spring.

It wasn't a great day to be a Syracuse Chiefs fan.

Sure, the fanbase is happy for Zach Walters, who was traded to Cleveland on Thursday. No question though, Chiefs fans will miss Walters.

He was traded to the Indians for Asdrubal Cabrera. There is little doubt though, Cabrera will become the every-day 2nd baseball for Washington.

The fact that Walters was traded for a player of Cabrera's caliber (yes, it is his contract year), says volumes about Zach Walters' potential.

Walters led the International League in homeruns last season with 29 homeruns. This year, he was batting .300 for the Chiefs, helping the team to a first place position in the International League's North Division.

About that.

On the day Walters was traded, Syracuse fell to the Pawtucket Paw Sox 4-2 on a walk-off homerun. With that result, Pawtucket and Syracuse are now tied for first in the divisional race.
