They havenâ??t even played a game in their new conference, and already the Syracuse Orange football team is getting little respect.
ACC media members gathered in Greensboro, North Carolina for the â??ACC Kickoffâ?? media events (including CNY Centralâ??s own Niko Tamurian) have selected the Orange to finish sixth out of seven teams in the conferenceâ??s Atlantic Division. SU received 320 points, nearly 500 behind division leader Clemsonâ??s 815. Only the erstwhile rival Boston College Eagles keep the Orange from bringing up the rear.
Niko tells me he picked the Orange to finish third, by the way.
Clemson is also expected to win the league this year, by a wide margin. The Tigers received 95 votes, while second place Florida State received 15.
Tigers quarterback Tajh Boyd is the media choice for preseason player of the year. No Orange men were listed among the top seven receiving votes.
The Orange begin training camp in August for their inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They travel to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on August 31st for the season kickoff vs. Penn State, then host Wagner on September 14 in the first home game of the year.
SUâ??s first ACC contest will be at the Carrier Dome on October 5th. The opponent? Clemson.
