Syracuse Nationals U-16 Girls Hockey is playing for a National Championship

The Syracuse Nationals Under-16 Girls Hockey team skates in preparation for the National Championships next week.

One step inside the Twin Ice Rinks at the Cicero Commons Thursday night and you could instantly feel the excitement in the air.

You see the rink was home to practice for the Syracuse Nationals Under-16 Girls hockey team's practice and that team is representing our area against the rest of the nation next week.

It's the National Championships in Marlborough, MA next week. The "Nats" are one of just 16 teams that has made it to the championships and now they have a chance to make history.

What's interesting, is that the team scored a goal with just 0.3 seconds left that didn't propel them to victory, but was still enough to propel them to nationals since two teams from New York were invited.

"I think it's like, we're just like a family" said Alli First. "We're more than just a team, and from the time I was here, we've really been like a family and I think that's what got us to nationals" she goes on to say.

This group of girls is no stranger to the limelight, in fact its core is the same team that went to nationals in Detroit in 2011 on the 12-year old team. Now, as members of the Under-16 team history is repeating itself.

The team has one more practice before heading out to Massachusetts next week to play for it all!
