With goalie shortage, Crunch sunk by Admirals in shootout

John Parks is currently the head coach for the Christian Brothers Academy varsity hockey team.

This season, he has also helped the Syracuse Crunch by being a goalie during practices. However, with Cedrick Desjardins and Kristers Gudlevskis recalled to Tampa Bay and Riku Helenius suspended, Parks suited up for the Crunch, backing up recently signed Allen York as the Crunch faced Norfolk on Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately, Norfolk would pick up a 3-2 victory over the Crunch that required both overtime and a shootout. Jon DiSalvatore and Dana Tyrell would pick up goals for the Crunch while Norm Ezekiel and Steve Eminger would score for the Admirals in regulation. After a scoreless over time, former Crunch player Emerson Etem and Alex Grant would provide the Admirals with the shootout winning goals. Brad Thiessen, who made 34 saves in regulation, held the Crunch scoreless in the shootout.

Allen York had 29 saves in his first start for the Crunch. With the overtime loss, the Crunch picked up their first point after going six games without earning a point.
