2012 Fayetteville-Manlius Hornets hoping for a Section III championship

F-M Coach Paul Muench instructs the team as former SU star and current F-M assistant Damien Rhodes looks on

Year in and year out, Paul Muench's F-M Football team is well respected for being one of the best teams in Section III.

But in 2012 the Hornets don't want to be one of the best, they want to be THE best.

That was the mindset when I stopped by the Hornets practice, a perfect blend of intensity with fun and constructive drills had the Hornets looking like a real contender.

The team returns a hearty number of seniors including quarterback Wolf Shafer and running back Sean Bright who scored 24 times in 2011. Add in the mix future stars like T.J. Wheatley and you have a perfect recipe for a great season.

F-M knows all about the competitive nature of Section III Football, with four different champions over the past six seasons and the team knows it has the talent to not just contend but perhaps win the crown in 2012.

The Hornets open the season on August 31st, hosting the upstart Central Square Red Hawks who made the playoffs in 2011. That game is followed by a big showdown with last year's Section III Champions, the West Genesee Wildcats.
