Baldwinsville and New Hartford capture Section III baseball championships

For the first time since 2004, Baldwinsville has been crowned Section III baseball champions.

The Bees outran Fayetteville-Manlius 10-3 on Wednesday to capture the Class AA crown, and in the process earns the right to play in the New York State playoffs.

Scott Blewett pitched a complete game, earning the victory of course, striking out eight batters in the process. Gabe Levanti provided the bulk of the firepower with 3 RBI while Jimmy Schmidt and Connor Martin each chipped in with 2 RBI. In the losing effort, F-M's Dave Nuzzo drilled a pair of doubles, good enough for 2 RBI.

In Class A, New Hartford's baseball team has completed an incredible run, that now has them representing Central New York against the rest of the state in the Class A playoffs.

The Spartans beat CBA, Bishop Ludden, and then J-D in the Section III championship to complete a turnaround from being the 7th seed to Section III champs.

Cooper Brown got the action started for New Hartford in the top of the 1st inning with an RBI double, and the Spartans took a 2-0 lead after that half of the inning. J-D responded when starting pitcher Matt Yonta brought in two runs with a base hit of his own, tying things up at 2 runs apiece

But in the 3rd inning, Connor Manderson drove in what proved to be the game winning run as both offenses were stymied the rest of the way and New Hartford won 3-2.

With the win the Spartans now advance to the Class A state playoffs and their first game is on Monday against a Section X opponent.
