What a game it was under the lights at Liverpool High School on Monday night, Baldwinsville and Fayetteville-Manlius battling for the Section III Class AA Boys Soccer Championship. F-M's goalie Graham Hughes and B'ville's netminder Andrew Coughlin both played outstanding the entire contest. The game was tied at one goal apiece most of the way, that was until there was 30 seconds left.
That's when a direct kick from Michael Guardino got close enough to the net for a mad scramble to ensue, and in the end Stefan Merchant found the ball and sent it home for the victory.
With the win, Baldwinsville claims its 4th consecutive Section III Boys Soccer Title, and couldn't have done it in more thrilling fashion.
Overall, it's been a great fall for the Bees, as Monday's title marked the 4th Section III Championship this fall (Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Field Hockey, and Football). And by the way, B'ville has a chance to win its 5th of the season, when the Girls Volleyball team goes for Sectional glory on Wednesday night.
