Baldwinsville volleyball wins state title, other squads fall in championship games

The Baldwinsville girls volleyball team celebrates after winning the Class AA state title

The Baldwinsville girls volleyball team beat Mercy 25-15, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, (3 games to one), to win the Class AA State Title on Sunday in Glens Falls.

"This means the world," Baldwinsville's Melissa Voyer says. "The past years we've been on varsity, we've come so close, and this year that was our motivation to win it."

In soccer action, the Westhill boys had their run come to a close in the Class B state title game against Carle Place, losing 3-0.

The Marcellus girls soccer team battled Oneonta in the Class B girls state title game. The match was tied at 1 for much of the second half, but Oneonta scored a late goal, winning the Class B title.

In field hockey, Cazenovia went up against Pierson/Bridgehampton in the Class C state title game, taking place at C-NS. The game was tied 0-0 through regulation, and after there was still no score after the first overtime, the two teams went into double overtime. With less than a minute to play, Kasey Gilbride made a diving shot that got past everybody and into the back of the net, winning the title.
