8 Section III football teams punched their tickets to the sectional finals in the Carrier Dome Friday night.
In Class AA, Fayetteville Manlius and Baldwinsville played in a tightly matched battle at Liverpool High School. F-M took an early lead, but Baldwinsville came charging back, winning by just two points, 38-36. Bees running back Tyler Rouse ran well, notching 272 yards on 35 carries and four touchdowns. It could've been more too, as 110 yards he gathered were called back. They go on to play CBA in the sectional finals.
In Class A, Jamesville-Dewitt beat Whitesboro by the slimmest of margins, 7-6. The Red Rams defense played well the entire game, their biggest stop coming on a Whitesboro two point conversion try in the second quarter. They go to the Dome and will play Nottingham, who beat Indian River 48-26.
It was a tale of two completely different games in Class B. Chittenango jumped to an early big lead over Oneida, only to see it evaporate to six in the fourth quarter. But, led by Devin Phelps, Chittenango got some key first downs down the stretch, winning 21-15. Next week, they play Cazenovia, who pounded Camden 54-7.
Class C will determine their finalists Saturday night.
In Class D, Sandy Creek continued their perfect season, beating Weedsport by three touchdowns 28-7. They'll play Westmoreland next week, who beat West Canada Valley 37-20.
