Typically, our CNY Central Athlete segment features one or perhaps two student athletes.
But this weekend, we had no choice but to feature five.
The Nottingham track team has five student athletes competing for state championships this weekend.
Tayquon Hightower, Romeo Kpolo, Jefari Davis, and Sterling Lowry comprise the 4x200 meter relay team that qualified for this weekend's state meet. The four hope to bring a state title home not just to Syracuse but to show their Nottingham pride too.
Lowry also qualified for the 55 meter sprint, while Hightower will compete in the 200 meter intersectional relay.
The 5th student athlete that Nottingham is very proud of is Shayna Santarelli-Hansen.
Santarelli-Hansen qualified with the best score in all of New York State in the shot put event.
Get this- she had a staggering distance of 38.425 feet in her qualifying toss.
Nottingham, no doubt, is proud of these athletes on the field accomplishments but it's easy to see why these kids are so succesful. As you'll see in the video, they have to right attitude and regardless of how this weekend goes they've already made a statement to all student athletes in Section III.
Congratulations to Shayna Santarelli-Hansen, Tayquon Hightower, Romeo Kpolo, Jefari Davis, and Sterling Lowry this week's CNY Central Athletes!
