Fri, 18 May 2012 11:23:51 GMT — This week's CNY Central Athlete goes above and beyond on and off the field. On the field, LaFayette senior Monica Blaisdell is leading the Lancers' girls lacrosse team to one of its best seasons ever. And off it, she's setting an example, not just for her teammates but for all of us to follow.Monica is raising money for the Relay For Life next month in Tully. She'll of course be taking part in the event, but taking the extra step is the only way Monica knows how to approach things. The LaFayette community has been hit especially hard by cancer and Monica decided to take on this cause as a way to fight back. Her fundraising efforts involve, in part, selling butterflies to be released at the Relay For Life. You can by them for $7 each by called 315-677-0107, and of course have them released in honor of someone you know.Clearly, Monica is a paragon of what a student athlete should be. Not just trying to better her team, but also doing her part to better her community.Congratulations to Monica Blaisdell, this week's CNY Central Athlete!
