This week's CNYCentral Athlete is a warrior among Warriors as the Liverpool Warriors have their sights set on a Section title. The 5-2 Warriors have looked great on both sides of the ball this season, but most would agree that Jeff Edwards is the heart and soul of the offense. He ran for 1244 yards on 174 carries for 13 touchdowns in the regular season, and is a leader on and off the field.
"Jeff's a great kid, he works really hard," says Liverpool head coach Dave Mancuso, "and the kids respect him a lot. He's a (leader) when he's in the hallways and when he walks on the field."
Edwards will lead the Warriors into the Section III Class Double-A playoffs tomorrow night when they host West Genesee, a team who also has a strong running game, but most of the Liverpool players agree that Edwards has that something special.
"He's probably our biggest asset to our offense," admits senior tight end Joe Duffus, "I don't want to make his head too big but he's one of our best players. I believe he's the best running back in the state, and I think he can guide us to a Sectional Championship."
"I just try to keep the team focussed," explains Edwards, "if we're not focussed and having a good mindset then I don't believe that we'll win. We've got to stay focussed and just do great in practice and I feel like everything will put it in place on Friday."
Game time is 7 PM this Friday night at Liverpool High School.
