CNY Central is the first to report that Corcoran High School lacrosse star James Cathers has made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse for Syracuse University.
Cathers ended a long recruiting process by giving the news to the Orange coaches late last week. Cathers is considered a top 30 recruit by InsideLacrosse.com, but his importance to the Orange is certainly much higher than that.
When asked Monday about his commitment to SU, Cathers said It TMs in my hometown, so I don TMt have to move out, I TMm not sure my parents will like that, but it TMs a great team, they TMre ranked, and if you want to win that TMs where you go.
Cathers added I TMm the first one in my family to go to college, so that TMs nice to have on my shoulders. I have a brother and cousin on the (Corcoran) team, and hopefully (I can motivate them) to try and follow my footsteps and even be better than I am.
James can fire a shot with velocity rarely seen at the high school level and he TMs an impressive physical specimen for an offensive player at 6 TM3 and 220 pounds.
Well they TMre (SU coaches) saying even worst case scenario, if he doesn TMt start as a freshman, he TMll play on man-up, so that TMs a pretty good honor for a team with that type of tradition, said Corcoran coach Shaun Smith.
Cathers, who is also a talented hockey player, narrowed his choices down to joining his close friends Lyle and Miles Thompson at the University at Albany, or playing for the Orange. In the end he chose Syracuse.
